Permanent Tie Rod fix for John Deere tractor

Описание: This video is a permanent fix for a John Deere tractor when the ball comes out of a worn socket on a tie rod end. This is a no thrills video but hopefully will assist you with no longer having to replace the entire drag link on your tractor. My model tractor is a John Deere L110.

My drag link bar is approximately 5/8” wide. I purchased a 1/2" galvanized pipe to fit over the drag link bar. I chose an 8" length pipe to have enough to repair both the right & left sides.

The length of the pipe I need for each end is 1 3/4” which will allow space to push onto the drag link bar to where the bend is & then once it’s inserted it can be moved over the ball joint. You need to first cut off the threaded/tapered end of the pipe. The internal size of the galvanized pipe is slightly smaller than 5/8” so drill inside the pipe to widen it a little so it can fit over the drag link bar end.

I took a grinder to make a 1/4” wide by 5/8” long slit at the end of the pipe so it can fit over the top of the ball joint and be tight enough to keep it from coming out of the socket.

File down any sharp edges and metal fragments.

Place a small hose clamp on the drag link bar followed by the cut galvanized pipe. Move the pipe past the hole where the ball joint inserts. After putting the ball joint back into the socket, slide the pipe back over the ball joint. Tighten the small hose clamp to keep the pipe from sliding back.
