Objective: To enable children express themselves more effectively.
The word Elocution means the art of effective public speaking. Students of Grade 1 had an Elocution Competition where they could choose to speak for a minute on either of three topics: Saving Tree, Love Animals or Visit to a National Park.
Some of the children who made impactful speeches on Saving Trees, said the following:
“These (trees) are the longest and the largest living things on earth. We cannot survive without it. These give food for birds and animals. It gives us oxygen to breathe, food to eat, shelter to live and medicines to stay healthy. Friends, do not cut the tree. Each one should plant a tree. Remember, Save Tree, Save Life, Save Us.” Swayum Joshi, passionately goaded the audience.
With globe, made of a paper, in hand, Chinmayee Panambur said, “We live on the globe and how many colors we see on globe? We can see green and blue colors. Just imagine if there is no green on the globe. Oh My God! Then what will happen? If there is no tree then we cannot live.”
“Can you live without breathing, eating and drinking water? No. Then why do you cut trees. You know trees are our best friends. It gives us fresh air to breathe, fruits to eat and water to drink. It protects us from hot summers, cold winters and floods. It is our duty to save trees. Don’t cut trees and plant more and more trees. Don’t waste paper; use more recycle and old papers.” said an equally inspired Sarthak Pandya.
Everyone attending this session realised that expressing one’s views effectively is the key to everything – be it motivating peers or impressing a judging audience.
