Odisha Introduces New School Curriculum & Textbooks From 2026-27 | Odia Mandatory Till Class 5

Описание: The Central Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has reviewed the school-level curriculum reforms and textbook development. Key updates include:

From the 2026-27 academic year, new textbooks will be implemented from Class 1 to Class 8, based on the Odisha State Curriculum Framework.
Approximately 1.67 lakh teachers across the state will be trained to implement the new curriculum effectively.
Mother tongue education will be made mandatory up to Class 5, strengthening foundational learning for children.
For Classes 6 to 10, a 10-day bag-free teaching system will be introduced to enhance learning flexibility.
Children from birth up to Class 12 will receive a special focus on nutrition and health.
Under National Education Policy-2020, 55 new NCERT textbooks have been translated for state use.

Three new subjects—Art Education, Physical Education & Wellness, and Vocational Education—will be included in the curriculum to promote holistic development.

The meeting included District Education Officers from 30 districts, DIET representatives, Central Schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Odisha Model Schools, and Eklavya Residential Schools through virtual participation.
