Shane: Hey guys. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2017 Nissan Frontier, and I'm going to show you how to install the PTC custom engine air filter. This is going to be a direct replacement for a factory air filter that you may have in there. This is going to be a pleated paper design. So if we look at the sides here, you'll notice how the pleats go up and down.

What that does is it creates a shield. So as dirt and debris go inside the pleats will catch it and it'll sit inside of here. That's what's going to keep it from going inside of your engine, causing damage to your engine. We're going to have a metal grate on the top. This is to keep the filter from flexing while it's inside of the filter box.

We're going to have a very thick rubber seal that runs all the way around the outside. So when it's inside the box it maintains a nice clean seal so that the airflow is only coming through the filter, we don't have any coming out through the sides.First thing we do to start our installation is we're going to come to our air box, we're going to pop these clips. We'll take our lid, pull it up, and we'll remove our old air filter. We're going to take our new one, put it right in place. Before we do, I want to show you the difference here.

If you look at our old one, this one actually hasn't been changed in a while. And this is why it's very important for you to change your air filters every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. I usually like to check mine once a year, and replace them if needed. Because anybody can do this at home, you don't have to take it to a shop to do it. Very simple.

Actually my kids do it. This is one thing that I help teach them, on the first line of helping maintain your vehicle. If you notice our old one here, how much stuff has collected inside of these pleats. So the filter is doing what it's supposed to do, and it's catching all of that and keeping it from going in your engine.What happens is, if you don't replace it, as it stuff builds up in there it restricts the air flow going into your engine. When it restricts the air flow going into your engine you lose gas mileage, and it affects your acceleration. With our new one, once we put it in, we're getting salad airflow because we don't have any restriction, and it helps keep any of the dirt and debris from getting in our engine. It give us better gas mileage and better acceleration response. To put ours in, again, you just put it right in place and then snap your lid back on. Once you get it back into place snap your clamps back on and you're ready to go.One thing I will suggest, when replacing or checking your engine air filter I recommend checking and possibly replacing your cabin air filter also. So not only are you going to have clean air going into your engine, you'll have clean air going into the inside of your vehicle.That's going to do it for a look at an installation on the PTC custom engine air filter on your 2017 Nissan Frontier.
