Design: Named for its distinctive, sleigh-like "curved dash" at the front, which protected passengers from mud and debris.
The "Fire" Legend: Its mass production was actually a result of fate; after a factory fire in 1901 destroyed all other prototypes, the Curved Dash was the only surviving model, forcing the company to focus all production on it.
Performance: It featured a horizontal single-cylinder engine producing about 4 to 7 horsepower. It was steered with a tiller (like a boat) rather than a steering wheel and had a top speed of roughly 20 mph.
Legacy: It was the first car to become a true pop-culture icon, even inspiring the 1905 hit song "In My Merry Oldsmobile.
