Soft Amber is a limited edition fragrance by Oscar de la Renta released the summer of 2008. It’s composed of Italian mandarin and pink pepper combined with iris and patchouli and rounded with amber which gives warmth to the whole composition. In summer’s high heat, I detect rose and honey, though they are not listed.
It opens with a mild orange-patchouli blend. This blend is mild and airy, even in the summer heat. The florals support the mandarin’s zest and dance around in the sillage. The amber is warm, sweet, and comforting, more balsamic than resinous.
It works nicely as a warm-weather amber scent as the projection is intimate to moderate and not cloying. It reminds me of a much softer version of Dior’s Ambre Nuit; not the same, but with very similar scent profiles. If you like Ambre Nuit, you're likely to enjoy this beautiful perfume as well.
The bottle is beautiful with the characteristic Oscar de la Renta design but with a modern twist and a pop of color. If you love amber perfumes like I do and are in search of a summer scent, give Soft Amber a try!
