Keith and Dave both had fathers who lived in the Hessle area of Kingston Upon Hull.
Hessle was, and to some extent still is, the main area of Hull for families with a sea going history. We don't know yet, but our fathers families may have been neighbours.
Both our fathers took us to Albert Dock on occasion to see family who worked on the deep sea trawlers. Occasionally we could visit the ships but we almost always came away with a box of Cod or Crabs.
We both remember a bustling quayside with boxes of fish everywhere. Thousands of people were employed there. We know the fishing industry in Hull ended many years ago and put all of those people out of a job.
The Public Footpath through and over the Dock area is part of the King Charles III England Coast Path. We looked at another stretch of the path near Hilston in previous videos.
Our visit today is to see what remains of Albert Dock and how it is being used, if at all. There still are ships berthed in the dock. It is also used by visiting ships such as Royal Navy vessels and Tall Ships. Other than that it is quite a lonely quiet place.
Keith remembers Hull's Headscarf Heroes and their fight for the safety of their loved ones at sea.
In our next video we visit the St Andrews Dock area.
