The Industrial Disputes Act, of 1947 provides for “retrenchment compensation” to be paid to all workmen-level employees, with at least 240 days of continuous service. This is over and above any exit payments such as unpaid salary, leave encashment, notice pay and contractual dues like gratuity, incentive, etc.
