I finally found a way to transport my custom-built-but-so-fragile Sukhoi aerobatic by making some slight modifications to my Volantex Super Cub 500 box. (I said "Sport Cub" in the video by accident).

 Time to FLY!

I really am not happy with this plane. It seems like the small-cell foam takes dents and creases if I so much as look at it funny. The plane is starting to look rough before it even makes it's first fight. A damn shame. Even my balsa kit planes were never this fragile.


 I think I may stick with EPP foam birds from now on. I am tempted to retire this one early because of. Just too delicate...great for indoors but not tough enough for outdoors. We'll see how it goes.


BAD LUCK: For some reason I could not get AS3X to activate. I suspect that I had to turn off X-port, but when I tried that it did nothing. I'll have to do some further investigation to see what's wrong.

BAD LUCK, SO WHAT? I took the risk and made the maiden flight anyway in full manual mode. DAMN THE TORPEDOES! FULL SPEED AHEAD!

 (Or should that be "Damn the gyros"?)


The turbulence game me a little trouble but I was able to maintain control. Just not as enjoyable when getting tossed about. These ultra-light micros are the only planes I have flown that need some active stability for the most enjoyable outdoor flight with them in anything but dead-calm conditions. My bigger and heavier nitro planes never needed anything but standard piloting skills, including my smallest COX .049 powered birds. AS3X makes flying micro planes FEEL like you are piloting a larger one.

I made the flight short as a just-in-case move to assure keeping the plane intact until I figure the gyro issue. The maiden was successful despite the problems. Very maneuverable.


 I only wish it were more durable. Planes should not need to be pampered like princesses.
