Ares is blessed with a hyper armor C1 offense that contains up to a maximum of three elemental activation. Self-generating and can change direction from where he stand. Very good in dueling 1v1s and capable of controlling a horde of officers, but as the cost of elemental consistency. The initial C1 where he picks up his weapon has elemental activation, but is naturally blockable. If he wants to squeeze as much consistency as possible on one C1, then he will want to land this part of the C1 as well. Flame and Bolt are all very good additional elements on him, while Wind is good for the initial part of C1.

While Aggression may seem not too useful since he is full elemental offense, he will want it for his Normal Magic (NM) against Chaos Origins. Might on the other hand is there so he can 1v1 late stage normal officers with just two Slay activation instead of always relying on three, otherwise, he will always need three Slay to OHKO them. Occasionally, he will activate only two Slay. It is not a big deal if he has no Might attribute, but it becomes annoying when he fails to OHKO normal officers.

Outside of C1, Ares has alot of good charge attacks. They are mostly reserved for utility and crowd clear (CC). C2 is a good frontal CC while C4 is a good CC for what is around him. C5 is a very good charge attack to render any enemy units useless if the wyvern swallows them. Very good source of fast travel while able to free roam CC (0:08). Note that if 'Multi' clones (from his skill tree ability) activate on C5 (and C6), his wyvern will drop enemies behind when the clones expire.

This section will be dedicated to Bastion attribute as it is recommended on him. Ares really takes advantage of the hyper armor from C1 to be able to successfully melt an enemy, therefore, he will be tanking alot of incoming damage (1:56). While he is not always tanking big damage, he sometime does need to. It takes him roughly ~3 seconds to OHKO an enemy, but it also takes Wraith variants ~2 seconds to execute their magic fire pillar. This could potentially have him to tank alot of damage (especially on Pandemonium difficulty).

Speaking of Wraith variants, his NM cannot stagger them, therefore, Ares will be forced in a "fight or flight" situation against an aggro Wraith. He either fights and tank the damage, or flight and re-position for another C1.

Mechanically, Magic in this game is able to stagger any type of enemies in the game regardless of their state unless they are presently invulnerable/invincible, but Ares' NM also cannot stagger hyper armor enemies. His NM can lift aggro Power-type enemies, but he will need to spam NM before Power-types attack him so he can lift them into a C1. If not, something like this will happen (5:48) where Bastion can help.
