Guru Dr. Rashmi Rekha Das, Founder and Head of the Faculty of Performing Arts in 2016, choreographed a 5-minute new Odissi dance composition for world peace for the World Culture Festival 2016, held on 12 March 2016 in Delhi, India.
The grand performance featured 1,665 Odissi dancers, including her own disciples, Sri Sri Natyayoga students, Bachelor students of the Faculty of Performing Arts, and many other Odissi dancers from different parts of India.
The entire artistic coordination—artist selection, choreography design, teaching and rehearsals, coordination with state coordinators, and arrangements with sponsors for the artists—was carefully managed and supervised by Guru Dr. Rashmi Rekha Das. Within a very short period of one month, she successfully prepared all the dancers for this large-scale cultural presentation.
The performance conveyed a powerful spiritual message of world peace, highlighting the divine connection between spirituality, the culture of Jagannath, and the rich artistic heritage of Odisha. The choreography demonstrated how Yoga and classical Odissi dance can be integrated harmoniously, which also forms a significant part of her research work that began in 2016, titled “Dynamics of Yoga and Odissi Dance: Exploring the Benefits.”
With the divine blessings of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the choreography, training of 1,665 dancers, artist coordination, and stage management were successfully accomplished under her leadership. Through her dedication and vision, what appeared to be an impossible one-month project was completed successfully, creating a memorable and spiritually uplifting performance.
