Sand to Soil in 1 Year | Improving Soil Fertility for Free!

Описание: This video is about our journey from Sand to soil! This is how we took our yard to completely infertile sand into some really nutritious soil that grew a complete food forest in just 1 year.

Ive seen the methods work in all different situations from sandy, clay and rocky soils even to a dessert. If you do these methods enough eventually you will have some pretty amazing soil.

1. Mulch (wood chips) - Biggest difference and most important. It takes about 100 years to build an inch of top soil that we can accomplish in just a year with deep mulch. The mulch covers and protects dirt, holds in moisture, disperses compost tea, builds mycelium, and mulch breaks down into the perfect soil over time.

2. Coffee Grounds - Adds nitrogen, feeds the mycelium and helps breaks down the mulch faster. We get bags of free mulch from Starbucks.

3. Composting - Taking all of our fruit and vegetable scraps, even from friends and neighbors to add in extra nutrients and nitrogen into the soil. Also encourages us to eat more nutritious foods!

4. Chop and Drop - We have different trees planted that give off so much organic material we can feed the excess to the plants to build soil.

5. Bonus - Layer the mulch thick. The mulch acts as a sponge, increases moisture and grows mycelium.
Also, use ground covers because they help keep the moisture in and the roots turn the mulch accelerating the decomposing of the mulch into fertile soil.
