Open chimney damper, close oven damper, open door damper light newspaper screw, (if chimney is cold then light a few loose sheets of dry newspaper and place in the firebox to warm the chimney first.) add kindling, fill up the firebox with wood, close lid, wait about 1 or 2 minutes until the flames are roaring, then open the oven damper and close the chimney damper. regulate the fire by adjusting the door damper and the oven damper.
I use this range for heating and cooking, I do not have a back boiler on this range.
I store the firewood beside the fire, Stanley recommends an air gap to combustibles of 3". So I cannot recommend that you do this.
If you are trying to burn damp wood you are wasting time and energy. It takes energy to dry the wood in a fire, energy that you could be using to heat your home. The wood that I am burning has been seasoned over one summer. If it is kept dry this is enough in my opinion.
