Dr. Pamela Sambo Pays Tribute to Rt Rev. Emmanuel Chikoya at Send-Off Service

The service marked the end of Bishop Chikoya’s eight-year tenure as General Secretary of the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) and his transition to his new role as Bishop of the Anglican Central Diocese of Zambia.
Speaking as Guest of Honour, Dr Sambo said the occasion was not simply about transition but about honouring a life of purpose, integrity and commitment to justice. She said Bishop Chikoya’s contribution to social justice in Zambia extended far beyond his title.
“For the past eight years, Bishop Emmanuel Chikoya has served faithfully and courageously as General Secretary of the Council of Churches in Zambia,” Dr Sambo said, noting that he used the office as a prophetic platform to speak boldly for the vulnerable during periods of social and economic challenge.
Dr Sambo described his voice as firm, principled and respected because it was grounded in truth, compassion and moral courage. She further highlighted his dual service as CCZ General Secretary and Human Rights Commissioner, saying he demonstrated integrity in balancing two demanding public roles.
She said Bishop Chikoya’s leadership went beyond administration to mentorship, having nurtured young advocates and strengthened professionals across the faith and human rights sectors.
“The true measure of a leader is not how many followers they have, but how many leaders they create,” Dr Sambo said, describing his tenure as a resounding success that brought stability, vision and fidelity to core values.
The service was attended by the Most Reverend Dr Albert Chama, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Zambia and President of the Council of Churches in Zambia, senior clergy, government officials, civil society representatives, members of the press and congregants.
As Bishop Chikoya assumes his new role, Dr Sambo said the Council of Churches in Zambia remains stronger and more resilient because of his leadership, expressing confidence that his episcopal ministry would continue to inspire and transform lives across the country.
