Perfectionism is often framed as a marker of high standards, ambition, and personal value. In reality, it frequently functions very differently.
In this video, I examine perfectionism as a psychological structure and gradually dismantle it. While it presents itself as a pursuit of “perfect moments,” “perfect outcomes,” or “perfect conditions,” perfectionism often operates as a coping mechanism — one designed to avoid the possibility of negative outcomes. Much of this happens subconsciously.
In that sense, perfectionism behaves like a Trojan horse. It appears beneficial and protective, but it often becomes a source of significant harm. When combined with emotional immaturity, low self-esteem, and a limited tolerance for risk, it can keep a person’s life in a prolonged state of stagnation.
This kind of stagnation — both psychological and behavioral — carries long-term consequences. Without action, there are no results. Without results, there is no reinforcement, learning, or motivation to continue. Over time, the capacity to act at all begins to erode.
The only way forward is imperfect action. Not certainty, not readiness — but movement.
