Eric Clapton - The Lady in the Balcony : Lockdown Sessions (2021).

For this exceptional concert in more than one way, Eric Clapton reunites with his long-time comrades, Nathan East (bass and vocals), Steve Gadd (drums) and Chris Stainton (keyboards) to play his standards and covers acoustically, blues, country as well as rare titles.

A concert supervised by Russ Titelman, the Grammie-winning director (James Taylor, George Harrison, Brian Wilson,Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones) and recorded live at Cowdray House, a mansion located in West Sussex, England.

The project was born from the forced cancellation of Eric Clapton's concerts scheduled for May 2021 at the Royal Albert Hall due to the pandemic. Determined to perform, he gathered his band in the English countryside and organized a concert with only the musicians and discreet cameras present.

Clapton's wife, Melia, the only outside guest, inspired the song at the sessions. Mainly acoustic, the concert is almost designed as an “Eric Clapton Unplugged II”, but not quite as the last three songs are played with electric guitars.

Eric Clapton revisits his timeless classics like “River Of Tears”,“After Midnight”, “Layla”, “Bell Bottom Blues”, “Tears inHeaven”, “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” and “Key to the Highway”. He also covers songs that strongly influenced him and his contemporaries, such as “Black Magic Woman” or “Man of the World” by Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green era.

The result is much more than a series of hits. It is the very soul of Clapton who, since the Yardbirds in 1963, has continued to reign supreme on the guitar with his feeling and virtuosity. __________________________________________________________________________

Pour ce concert exceptionnel à plus d’un titre, Eric Clapton retrouve ses camarades de longue date, Nathan East (basse et chant), Steve Gadd (batterie) et Chris Stainton (claviers) pour jouer en acoustique ses standards, des reprises de blues, de country ainsi que des titres rares.

Un concert supervisé par Russ Titelman, le réalisateur récompensé aux Grammies (James Taylor, George Harrison, Brian Wilson, Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones) et enregistré en live à la Cowdray House, un manoir situé dans le West Sussex en Angleterre.

Le projet est né de l’annulation forcée des concerts d’Eric Clapton prévus en mai 2021 au Royal Albert Hall en raison de la pandémie. Déterminé à jouer, il a réuni son groupe dans la campagne anglaise et organisé un concert en la seule présence des musiciens et de caméras discrètes.

La femme de Clapton, Melia, unique invitée extérieure, a inspiré le titre aux sessions. Principalement acoustique, le concert est presque conçu comme un « Eric Clapton Unplugged II », mais pas tout à fait car les trois dernières chansons sont jouées avec des guitares électriques.

Le résultat est bien plus qu’un enchaînement de tubes. C’est l’âme même de Clapton qui depuis les Yardbirds en 1963, n’a cessé de régner en maître sur la guitare avec son feeling et sa virtuosité.
