UNNERFED OLD OROCHI VERIFIED AFTER OVER 5 YEARS AND 375K ATTEMPTS!
Note: This is done on the old version of Orochi by Platnuu from the beginning of 2017. That means this is much shorter in length and doesn't have any of the newer decoration and replaced parts from more recent years since Knobbelboy took on the project. Despite this, the title states unnerfed since versions later than this one significantly nerf the chokepoints that make this level so difficult, so this is far harder than just getting to the halfway on the longer version.
After over two years since my previous hardest, it feels amazing to be able to finish off a completion like this again, and especially for this iconic level. This version of Orochi has always been one of my absolute favorite levels in the game ever since I first saw it in early 2017, and I had always wanted to eventually beat it. In 2018, my friend Vitesse uploaded an april fools video of a legitimate-looking completion of this level, and that lit a fire in me to eventually make it a reality. The first line in the intro here is actually a callback to that very video. I first started playing this for fun nearly 6 years ago, uploading a progress video of getting the level in 14 runs in mid 2020. In 2022, I wanted to go for an impressive world record, so I decided to grind out what was at the time my hardest achievement with 38-100, eventually achieveing it in mid 2023. I knew that the first half was much harder though, so I wasn't confident enough to grind out something from 0 yet. At the start of 2025, I felt like getting Silent Acropolis in 2 runs gave me the necessary skill boost to come back to it, so I raced Diamond to be the first to get the level in two runs. While I lost the race, I did end up getting the WR back with 40% after nearly 2 months of grinding. When returning to this level again in the second half of 2025, realizing I finally have what it takes to finish it off after so long, I had intended this to be a break from Silent Acropolis and hopefully to beat it by the end of the year, but this ended up being a much larger task than I planned. I progressed relatively quickly from 40 all the way to the ending at 81% in only two months, but here I ended up getting significantly unlucky and having a devastating experience with the level. When getting 81%, I was at 277k attempts, but I ended up taking nearly another 100k attempts to complete the level, as I ended up taking another 5 months of consistent grinding and getting 26 fails at the last 5% of difficult gameplay. I even got a completion in noclip accuracy which isn't considered legitimate for rate standards and lists (despite personally viewing it as legitimate), warranting a rebeat. Getting even more unlucky on this than on Through The Gates despite this being first half carried was brutal and pushed my mental to its limits. Of the over 5 years I spent on this level, I had been actively playing it for over 17 months on and off. This level is so much harder than it looks at face value, and the longer I played it the more I realized this. Most of the difficulty comes from momentum control based gameplay, but still is packed with extremely precise chokepoints, including several 2-frame timings. In my opinion, this is harder than Silent Clubstep but easier than Silent Acropolis.
