The miracle of the liquefaction of San Gennaro is locally known and accepted. The liquefaction reportedly happens at least three times a year: Sept. 19, the saint’s feast day, the Saturday before the first Sunday of May, and Dec. 16, the anniversary of the 1631 eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It is believed that if the blood liquefies it is taken as a good omen while if it didn't the faithful take it as an omen for misfortune for Naples and the world.
