Today, we are diving deep into the concept of Rethinking. You’ll learn how to teach students that their thoughts aren't facts—they are choices. By using the "Stuck Goggles vs. Growth Goggles" metaphor, we can show students that changing their perspective can change their entire emotional reality.
IN THIS VIDEO, YOU WILL LEARN:
1. The "Goggles" Hook: How to introduce the concept of perspective. We distinguish between "Stuck Goggles" (which make situations look hopeless) and "Growth Goggles" (which help us see solutions).
2. Becoming a "Thought Detective": I demonstrate how to use the "Situation - Thought - Feeling" chain. You’ll see how to teach students that a situation (like making a mistake on a test) doesn't cause the feeling—the thought does.
3. The "Flip the Script" Strategy: Watch how to model rewriting internal narratives. We use specific sentence starters like "This is a challenge, but I can grow my brain" to turn "giving up" into "problem-solving".
4. The 3 Super-Benefits of Rethinking: We wrap up by discussing the "Rethinking Unlocks Super-Benefits" poster. Learn how to explain to your class that reframing leads to feeling calmer, solving more problems, and actually learning from mistakes rather than fearing them.
5. Role-Play & Application: Discover how to use the "Feelings Detective" chart to prove that two people can have different feelings about the exact same event, simply based on how they choose to think.
💡 TEACHER TIP: Make this lesson stick by using real-world examples from your own classroom! As the lesson plan suggests, encourage students to be brave and share their own "stuck" moments to make the learning authentic.
❓ QUESTION OF THE DAY: Which "Helpful Sentence Starter" do you think your students need most right now? (e.g., "I can ask for help" or "I can try a different strategy"). Let me know in the comments!
