When you can use 4x4 high range.
Here’s just a quick basic video on when you can use 4WD High range.
I use 4WD high range whenever I can. You’ll especially notice the handling benefits on bumpy or loose corrugated roads. Because the front and rear drive shafts are rotating at the same speed, it tends to cause a slight understeer effect especially under acceleration that helps to maintain stability. As opposed to just driving the rear axle in a part time system, where the rear axle tends to dance around a bit.
For full-time 4wd systems, having the centre diff locked, tends to reduce the oversteer effect when decelerating or off the power.
Though modern stability control systems will intervene before you put your car into the scenery, running your vehicle in 4WD on loose traction surfaces is a noticeable advantage, especially on bumpy or corrugated roads.
Its really a judgment call, but this basic video will give you a general idea.
Remember, when driving on a high traction surface, TAKE IT OUT OF 4WD!
