Abstract: Electromagnetic ultrasonic transducers (EMAT) is crucial for the effective excitation of ultrasonic signals. However, the transducers suffer from low signal-to-noise ratio. To improve this situation, this work presents a new configuration of omni-directional magnetic-circuit-optimized EMATs. The new optimized design increases the static magnetic field strength and therefore helps to enhance the generation of Lamb wave. The coupling model applied to characterise and analyse the new design indicates that the optimized magnetic field provides an increased intensity compared to the traditional magnetic conguration of EMAT. Furthermore, the simulation verification is performed and the results show that the signal of magnetic-circuit-optimized EMATs design is dramatically improved.
