Nordstrand Audio Big Singles Soapbar - Demo Video Description
Note: The pickup used for this video is the Nordstrand Big Single 5, a 5 string pickup. The below 4, & 5 string sizes/shapes will sound similar, but not exact as they will use different length magnets. Nordstrand Audio is engineering them to sound as close to each other as possible.

Do yourself a favor - Listen with a decent set of headphones to get the best listen to the audio tracks in the video. Your phone or computer’s speakers are poor, they neuter bass frequencies and are a true compromise in this situation. Youtube applies compression to all videos, and this does affect the audio quality, unfortunately.

::: Our general feelings about the Nordstrand Audio Big Single Bass Soapbar Pickups :::
These single coil pickups are very balanced and sound great. They have a punch like a single coil J bass pickup, but with a little more width and warmth. They have a slightly rolled off top end, and are a tight sounding pickup, with just a hint of darkness.
As always, keep in mind that these are generalizations. Your experience could be different depending on many factors.
::: Gear :::
Bass: Ibanez SR305ESVM
Strings: D’Addario NYXL
Electronics: total bypass so there is no influence of the active preamp that came OEM on the bass
Audio Interface: Scarlett
Audio Recording Software: Logic Pro X
In Logic Pro X, we used an amp modeler, the ’60s Combo’, which is intended to emulate an Ampeg B-15. There is a slight bit of compression and a high pass filter at 40 Hz. For continuity and evaluation purposes, these settings are applied across all of our demo videos.

Andrew Dow is now accepting students!
Andrew Dow is a bass player and composer in Brooklyn, NY. He is known for his modern electric
six string bass playing in a jazz context. His own groups have been seen and heard throughout the City
and have included such heralded players as Michael Attias, Anna Webber, Alfredo Colon and Simon
Jermyn, along with his longtime collaborators Luke Marantz and Jeff Davis. Andrew is also a bass sub on
Broadway, including the shows Wicked, The Wiz and the Off Broadway show The Big Gay Jamboree.
“I made the decision in my early thirties to go back to school, and I knew it had to be to Berklee
College of Music in Boston. I was self-taught and frustrated with what I didn’t understand about music.
After having already spent eighteen years playing music in every style imaginable, I felt the desire to
understand how all of the musical puzzle pieces fit together once and for all. The greatest thing that I
received from music school, and specifically from my time studying with the legendary Hal Crook, was
how to practice music for the rest of my life. I feel that it’s my time to teach so that I can instill the
knowledge and concepts that I’ve learned along the way to others. I’m so excited about music, and I’m
excited to give others the tools to enjoy music at the same level. Clarity of knowledge through
intentional practice. All levels and styles of music are accepted. Let’s get started”
