Behold the legend of Karnov, the fire-breathing strongman from the circus who storms through a realm of mythical chaos in this 1988 platformer from Data East. Jinborov Karnovski, bare-chested, mustachioed, and clad in bold red tights, tears through nine surreal stages with elemental fury and improbable finesse. His mission is a quest for the Treasure of Babylon, buried deep within a dreamlike wasteland teeming with dinosaurs and dragons. The path is perilous, the architecture is illogical, and the enemies are drawn from every corner of myth and nightmare. But Karnov is no ordinary hero: his fiery breath incinerates foes, his boomerang makes enemies disintegrate, and his summonable ladders bend reality itself. And when the stakes rise, he grows wings like Kid Icarus, defying gravity as he soars toward destiny. Gameplay is a blend of precise platforming, strategic power-up management, and relentless forward momentum (when broken screen-scrolling allows). What might seem like chaos is a ballet of beautifully choreographed inputs.
