Описание: In a major boost to India’s air power, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has cleared a landmark proposal to procure 114 Rafale multirole fighter jets from France.

The mega deal, estimated at around Rs 3.25 lakh crore, could become the largest military acquisition in India’s history. The proposal is expected to receive Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) soon.

As per the plan under consideration, 18 Rafale jets will be delivered in fly-away condition, while the remaining aircraft will be manufactured in India. Nearly 80% of the total fleet is expected to be produced domestically with up to 60% indigenous content — a major push under the government’s defence indigenisation and Make in India initiative.

The acquisition is aimed at strengthening the Indian Air Force’s combat capabilities amid evolving regional security challenges.
