When you first move back, it’s tempting and easy to just befriend diaspora. But the thing is, it can lead to a bit of a toxic situation. Sometimes diaspora get together and just complain. Imagine 10 people just complaining. The complaints are justified and just. Nothing wrong with the complaining but it can bring your whole mood down. So limit to 3-4 returnees friends.
Focus on befriending Nigerians born and raised in Naija, who are doing well and upwardly mobile and hopefully. My goodness they can help you so much. They help you manage your expectations and tell you what the norms are. Watch how they move around the country, listen to what they saying about their upbringing, their university stories, business stories, and learn from them.
They will help you be rugged and flexible too.
