Understanding ISO 37000 Governance of Organizations, In conversation with Dr Victoria Hurth

Описание: The Institute for the Study of Corporate Social Responsibility at Ryerson University* is pleased to present an online interactive zoom session, Understanding ISO 37000 -- Governance of Organizations: In conversation with Dr. Victoria Hurth (details below), on Wednesday, December 15, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm (Toronto time).

Increasingly, stakeholders are scrutinizing the governance approaches of organizations, as a way of better understanding whether those organizations are capable of responding to the challenging and fast evolving economic, social and environmental conditions of the 2020s. But organizations come in all shapes and sizes –- including for-profit, publicly traded businesses, charitable organizations, multinational corporations, state-owned enterprises, and small and medium-sized firms, among others. Moreover, organizations are subject to highly varied legal regimes around the world, face different operating conditions in different countries and sectors, and have widely different purposes, values, products, services, and other outputs.

Rising to the aforementioned challenges, ISO 37000 -- Governance of Organizations was published this fall, after four years of deliberation through a consensus process involving experts from 87 countries. It is intended to provide a single, globally accepted reference for all kinds of organizations, regardless of size, type or location. As co-convenor of the ISO working group that developed ISO 37000, Dr. Victoria Hurth is ideally positioned to "unpack" the standard for attendees at the session, walking us through its genesis, process of development, key features, potential application, and next steps.

From 2016-2021, Dr. Hurth co-led the process to create ISO 37000, and she currently co-leads the ISO work developing standards on Indicators of Effective Governance, and guidance for their use. Dr. Hurth works extensively with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership where she is a Fellow, and she engages in cutting edge thought leadership as a Visiting Fellow of The University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School. She works at the intersection of academia and hands-on business to help companies transition to be drivers of long-term wellbeing for all (sustainability).

Moderating the session will be Dr. Kernaghan Webb, Director of the Ryerson CSR Institute and a Law and Business professor in Ryerson University's Ted Rogers School of Management who is also cross appointed to the Law Faculty.
