In this excerpt from an interview [uploaded Jan 2024] with Emily Bennett of the Australia Institute, Marr makes the extraordinary claim that Australia created a 'fake' history of - "Cook, convicts, sheep, gold, Eureka Stockade, Gallipoli. And it's fake" he tells us. Marr is an intelligent and erudite fellow but is he having a 'Joe Biden moment' and ''losing the plot' in his old age [late 70s]? Or is he just delusional from reading too much Henry Reynolds? Or is he wilfully trying to indoctrinate the next generation, like his young interviewer Emily Bennett, to accepting a "Bizarro-history" of Australia?
Does Marr really expect us to believe that the hundreds, nay thousands, of report writing colonial administrators, settler memorialists, churchmen, military, amateur and professional historians and academics all conspired to 'fake' the accepted history of colonial to early federation Australia? And he is keeping a straight face when he says this! He deserves another Walkley Award if his pulls of this con-job!
