“River Clyde estuary at Dumbarton rock where river Leven flowing out of Loch Lomond meets the Clyde.
We arrived in the afternoon on a sunny day with fresh breeze hoping to connect with a few sea trout. Best tackle to use is a 7/8 rod loaded with a 7 or a 8 weight line which has enough impetus to cast in to the wind as most of the area is relatively exposed.
We decided to use a heavier fly on the point and a smaller fly on the dropper.
Place is best fished with last two hours of ebb tide and two hours of flood tide. By the time we started it was nearly getting to low water and we could only squeeze 3 hours of fishing.
Although, mostly sandy bottom and safe to wade few places require caution as there is soft ground and danger of getting stuck in the mud. So be careful.
Fished for an hour or so opposite Dumbarton rock without any luck then decided to move further down in the open water with tide coming in. As they say for sea trout you need to be at the right place at the right time and today wasn’t that day as no fish were to be seen. Nevertheless we had a great time in excellent surroundings and reasonably good weather.”
