In January 2017, 26-year-old Wynesha Medley was found dead inside her Mercy Boulevard apartment in Savannah, Georgia. She had been killed by strangulation. Investigators focused on events surrounding her final days, including a recent breakup and evidence placing John Robert Padgett Jr. near her apartment around the time of her death.
