Clothing brand Uniqlo from Japan is disrupting the Indian market, breaking the monopoly held by brands like H&M, GAP and ZARA. It has been in India for only four years, but it has already opened 12 stores.
In just four years, Uniqlo has increased its sales fivefold, and they've also seen a 200% increase in profits. Let's look at the data:
FY 19: ₹129 Cr in sales / ₹64 Cr loss
FY 23: ₹624 Cr in sales / ₹68 Cr profit
While many may not be aware, Uniqlo has already made a name for itself globally, being the world's third-largest fashion brand with over 2,400 stores worldwide.
One of the strategies that has consistently worked in their favor is that Uniqlo doesn't believe in fast fashion. This philosophy is reflected in the designs of their clothes. They create simple and basic garments that can fit anyone, regardless of age, gender, or color.
As Indians are increasingly drawn towards minimalist designs nowadays, it's evident that Uniqlo's brand is gaining popularity in India due to this trend.
