Lily-Rose Melody Depp[1] was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine,[4] west of Paris, on 27 May 1999.[4] She is the daughter of American actor Johnny Depp and French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis.[4] She has a younger brother, Jack (John Christopher Depp III).[5] French actress Alysson Paradis is her aunt.[6] On her father's side she is of primarily English descent, with some French, German and Irish descent[7][8] as well as African descent through an eighth great-grandmother of her father.[8]

In 2012, after 14 years together, Depp's parents separated and arranged joint custody of her.[9] She divides her time between Los Angeles, Paris,[9] and New York City.[10]

Depp made her acting debut in 2014, with a minor role in the horror comedy film Tusk.[11][12] In 2015, at age 16, Depp became a brand ambassador for French fashion house Chanel in a decision personally overseen by Karl Lagerfeld.[13] She has since ventured into fashion modeling, promoting the brand on the runway and in fashion magazines such as Vogue, Glamour, Elle, i-D, Wonderland, Love, Madame Figaro, W, and V.[14]

In 2016, Depp reprised her Tusk role in the spin-off Yoga Hosers.[15] The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2016 to unfavorable critical reception.[16][17][18] She portrayed American dancer Isadora Duncan in The Dancer, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category.
