THE WELSH SEASIDE Tywyn

Описание: The town of Tywyn has a population of around 3250. Being so close to Aberdovey it is likely that many people heading to the coast would decide to end their journey there. Certainly, the town centre itself is not of any great beauty and won’t be winning prizes for such; but as a seaside resort it is well worth making a visit for as there is a fine beach to be enjoyed, alongside the possibility of taking a trip on one of Wales’ ‘Great Little Trains.’ For the record, TFW’s Cambrian Coast also has a railway station in Tywyn – trains usually run on a 2 hourly basis

A useful webcam with views from above the promenade can provide useful information on how high the tides are (https://visit-tywyn.co.uk/webcam/inde.... When I took a look at this webcam it offered shots from a vantage point above the Promenade – useful if you wish to check on tide conditions. The Promenade itself is interesting for being so wide and the adjoining road being quietish and well set-back

There are sand dunes nearby and a trek northwards for around 1 mile will take you to Broad Water - an inland lagoon. I have never seen Broad Water filled with water, but it certainly does happen as I have seen photos of such. The scenery inland is magnificent, with the hills as a backdrop. The lane northwards to Broad Water comes to an abrupt end as it reaches the Afon Dysynni, but a recently constructed footbridge does allow you to cross the river and I took the opportunity to head for Tonfanau, almost a mile further on

Not to be forgotten is the Talyllyn Railway. A narrow-gauge railway it runs just over 7 miles inland towards Abergynolwyn. The railway provided inspiration for Rev W Awdry’s ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ books, and the film ‘The Titfield Thunderbolt’ also took inspiration
