Thank you to Luca Greenslade for the pictures.
After the SEECON contest finished and all the bands and scores were done, a few local towers around the area were open for general ringing. These towers were Caterham Valley, Godstone, Bletchingley and Merstham, where the final two feature in this video. Because of my injury, I could not ring at any of the towers, however I could enjoy the sound of them in person too.
Bletchingley were a pleasant sounding ten, with two whitechapel trebles blending in nicely to make them the ten they are today. I managed to get a whole clip of a bob course of Grandsire Caters which was quite well struck! Apart from that mostly call changes were rung at this tower.
We then move onto Merstham, an interesting sounding eight which have a characterful sound, crowned with a tenor which in my ears has a major third tierce. The mears trebles which make them the eight they are today match really well. A well respected half course of Yorkshire Surprise Major was rung on these bells. Overall it was fun going to each of the towers to see and hear the bells being rung, hopefully next year I will be able to compete and ring at the local towers!
