A FREE way to file taxes

Описание: The Internal Revenue Service’s free tax-filing system will get a new ability that critics say it should have had all along: automatically filling in information that the IRS already has.

Starting this season, users of the IRS’s Direct File service will be able to import biographical and W-2 wage information directly from their IRS account, the tax agency said Friday. Direct File will also add a chatbot to help taxpayers determine whether they are eligible for the service.

The IRS also announced Jan. 27 as the start of this year’s tax season.
Direct File, which started as a pilot program in 2024 and will expand to more states this year, allows users to submit simple tax returns directly to the government for free. Importing W-2 data and other information has been something that some observers called for from the start.
