Spirits from Austria Part 8 – Ron Johan Madeira Cask Rum in a Bywater Cocktail 2025E014

Today I am continuing my series on Austrian Spirits with a Madeira Cask Rum that I picked up in a store called Doctor Bottle in Graz, Austria. Their moto on their store window is Drink, Dress, Deko because they sell alcohol, clothes and some furniture.

David Golles Ron Johan Madeira Cask Rum from Graz, purchased at Dr. Bottle
44% Alcohol, (equivalent to 88 Proof)
Nose: Fruity, Grape influence, Banana, Cinnamon, Slight Rum Funk
Palate: Very Good, Orange Peel, Banana, Tropical Fruite
Finish: Long, no significant burn

Bywater
Ingredients:
• 1.75 oz Aged Rum
• 3/4 oz Amaro, Averna (5.1g carbs, substitute Amaro Ramazzotti, 17 carbs or Cynar, 5.85g carbs)
• 1/2 oz Green Chartreuse
• 1/4 oz Falernum
• 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
• 2 dashes Orange Bitters
Instructions:
1. Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and fill with cracked ice.
2. Stir well for 20 seconds and strain into chilled cocktail glass or coupe.

And that is the Austrian Madeira Cask Rum and a great cocktail. I hope you are able to find a similar Rum and try this cocktail.
