Описание: A fast-moving wildfire erupted on California’s Otay Mountain, north of the U.S.-Mexico border in the San Diego area, on Thursday (January 23), as authorities battled the blaze amid blustery weather conditions.

Dubbed by fire officials as the “Border 2” fire, the blaze broke out for unknown reasons shortly before 2:30 p.m. (2230 GMT) in a remote spot near Otay Mountain Truck Trail, about a half-mile west of Doghouse Junction in Otay Mountain Wilderness Area, according to Cal Fire.

Aerial footage showed thick smoke rising as multiple spots were ablaze on the mountain. The fire reached 140 acres within 90 minutes and by 7:30 p.m. (0330 GMT Jan. 24), had spread over an estimated 566 acres, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters battled the blaze on the ground, while air tankers and water-bombing helicopters were also deployed, a fire captain with the state agency said. The National Weather Service in San Diego reported winds in the area to be around 20 miles per hour with 5% humidity.
