Making Rights Real for Domestic Workers Virtual Panel | English & Spanish

Описание: This virtual panel discusses the research findings of the Seattle Domestic Workers Coalition and the City of Seattle Office of Labor Standards. Beginning in 2021, they have partnered on qualitative and quantitative research to uplift the experiences of domestic workers and to provide policy solutions to enable them to have PTO.

The panelists:
María has been a domestic worker, cleaning and caring for homes, for more than 5 years. Her dedication and commitment to her work reflect her belief that domestic work shows pride and effort.

Silvia has been a domestic worker doing housekeeping for practically her whole life. She is a member of the ALA Garifuna women and originally from Livingston, Guatemala. The mother of three kids, she came to this country 20 years ago.

Jordan Goldwarg serves on Seattle's Domestic Workers Standards Board and is a member of Hand in Hand, a national organization that organizes employers of domestic workers as allies in the fight for domestic worker rights. He and his husband employ a house cleaner in their home.

Edy Dominguez has spent over a decade caring for and uplifting others, from her beginnings as an Au Pair to her work as a nanny and teacher. She was one of the voices who helped advocate for the 2018 Domestic Workers Bill of Rights and now organizes with Fair Work Center, empowering low-wage workers and fighting for dignity and justice in her community.

Kim England, Professor of Geography and the former Director of the Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies at the University of Washington. Kim has also been a proud member of the Seattle Domestic Workers Coalition since it began several years ago.

Laine Middaugh is a Policy Analyst at Seattle’s Office of Labor Standards, where she has worked with Coalition partners on domestic worker research since 2021. Before coming to work at the City, Laine worked as a union organizer, negotiator, and strategic researcher.
