Huygens witnessed something incredible from Saturn’s skies: Earth and the Moon crossing the face of the Sun on Jan 14, 2005.
This rare transit happens just once every 15 years, but a perfect central alignment like this? Only twice in a thousand years!
To spot Earth as a tiny dot on the Sun from Saturn, you’d need at least a 30x telescope zoom.
This simulation is based on real Huygens probe data, part of the Cassini-Huygens mission. This transit occurred just hours before the Huygens probe landed on Titan. While the probe could not directly receive signals from Earth during the transit, Earth was still able to listen to Huygens.
