Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that Donbas is part of Russia, and he has made the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from the Donetsk region , which is still under Ukrainian control, one of the conditions for achieving peace. Journalists from the online network "Current Time" asked residents of Slovyansk whether they would be willing to accept the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from the city in exchange for peace. Russian troops regularly shell the city using drones, missiles, and bombs. Despite this, businesses and notaries remain open, and people continue to buy and sell real estate. The publication notes that the mood of the city's residents fluctuates depending on the intensity of the shelling. When Russian occupiers shell Slovyansk heavily, people consider leaving. However, when the city is quiet, they return to their normal lives. While people are thinking about how to preserve their businesses, jobs, and the supply of goods, they are also concerned about the Kremlin leader's demand that Ukraine withdraw its Armed Forces from the unoccupied part of Donetsk Oblast. "We have a slight feeling of betrayal. I can understand the feelings of those who say this is the right thing to do, but they will never understand me. I speak for the people who want to stay in Ukraine, but want to stay home. This feels more like a betrayal than an insult. We, citizens of Ukraine, want to live in our own country," said local entrepreneur Serhiy Kovalev, who runs a cafe. Realtor Vladislav also shared his concern that the issue of withdrawing the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas is being discussed without taking into account the opinions of the people who live there: I think the majority of people in Slovyansk will vote for Ukraine. That's understandable. But I think there will be a certain percentage who will vote for the other side." Passersby interviewed by journalists were also against handing over Slavyansk to Russia. "I don't want Slavyansk to be given up. However, a bad peace is better than a good war. I'll probably stay here, since I have nowhere else to go. But I don't want Ukrainian troops to leave the city. The Russians have no better government than ours. I doubt there will be any improvement. It will probably get worse," said one of the respondents. Real estate agency employee Vladislav believes that the Ukrainian military will also oppose the scenario of withdrawing from Donbas in exchange for peace.
