Taking the motherland by storm on December 28, the world heavyweight champion joined the number of A-list Diasporans who flew in to enjoy the popular Detty December celebrations. Surprisingly, the 35-year-old Boxing star has been having less fun and instead touring significant places in the southwest regions, including his hometown, the African Shrine, and the office of his state governor. But is AJ a true son of the soil trying to connect with his maternal roots, or does he have a hidden agenda in the motherland?
In March 2024, the renowned fighter came under fire for snubbing Nigerians after he knocked out Francis Ngannou in a thrilling victory in Saudi Arabia. Later, during an interview, the talented boxer explained that he deliberately ignored his people because Nigerians were the ones mainly trolling and mocking him when he lost his earlier match. “Learn to show love to those losing, not only those winning. Those at the bottom need love, care, and support more than those at the top. When someone is falling, hold them; don’t wait to make a mockery of them. They are my people, and I love them still,” he said.
However, somehow, many assumed AJ was still holding a grudge and would not return to the motherland until his recent surprise visit. However, a viral video of the boxer with Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has sparked speculations that a woman is the main agenda of his visit. It’s no secret that the tall, athletic, and handsome bachelor joined the mid-thirties gang in October 2024; however, he does not appear ready to settle down soon, often citing that his career is his priority. Many believed the boxer, who still lives with his mother in the UK home, was in Nigeria to pick a wife.
