Takht-e Soleyman (Throne of Solomon)
Takht-e Soleyman is one of Iran’s most important archaeological and spiritual landmarks, set amid volcanic hills in West Azerbaijan. This UNESCO World Heritage Site once served as a major religious center of the Sasanian Empire, home to the revered fire temple of Adur Gushnasp. Visitors can explore the remains of palaces, fortifications, and a serene, spring-fed lake that has shaped local myth for millennia. The site blends natural beauty with deep historical resonance, offering a powerful glimpse into ancient Persian beliefs and royal traditions.
Zendan-e Soleyman (Prison of Solomon)
A short drive from Takht-e Soleyman stands Zendan-e Soleyman, a striking volcanic cone rising dramatically from the surrounding plain. Its hollow summit and sheer slopes inspired legends that it once held demons imprisoned by the prophet Solomon. In reality, the formation is an extinct volcanic vent, but archaeological evidence shows that ancient cultures used the surrounding area for ritual purposes. The mountain’s raw, solitary presence makes it one of the region’s most evocative natural monuments, rich with layers of myth and geology.
