On August 16, 1966, Redfa took off.

Mid-air, he cut radio contact, conserved fuel, and turned his jet toward Israel. Israeli radar detected an unidentified aircraft. Fighter jets scrambled. Moments later, history was made.

The MiG-21 landed safely on Israeli soil.

Not a single shot was fired.

Israel now possessed the enemy’s most advanced fighter jet.

For months afterward, Israeli engineers and pilots tested the aircraft extensively analyzing its speed, radar, maneuverability, and weaknesses. This intelligence later proved critical in future air battles and reshaped aerial combat strategies across the Middle East.

Redfa and his family were quietly relocated and given new identities. The man who risked everything disappeared into a new life, while his decision changed military history forever.
