True HORROR Stories
In 2007, in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, a search and rescue team responded to an emergency beacon activated near an abandoned silver mine outside the town of Silverton. The beacon belonged to a geology professor who had been mapping old mining tunnels for a university study. He had entered the mountains with two graduate students on September 3rd. The beacon activated on September 9th. No distress call. No radio contact. Just the beacon, pulsing from a location that should have been inaccessible. When the three-person rescue team reached the coordinates, they found the professor standing at the mouth of the mine. He was alive. His clothes were torn. His hands were bleeding. He was staring at something inside the darkness that the rescuers could not see. He would not respond to their voices. When one of the rescuers touched his shoulder, the professor screamed a single word and then went silent. The word was a name. A name that belonged to one of the graduate students. The graduate students were never found. Neither were two members of that rescue team. The only survivor walked fourteen miles through the night to reach the highway. He gave his statement to the county sheriff the following morning. That statement was sealed. The mine entrance collapsed three days later under circumstances that geologists described as impossible. Something is buried in those mountains. Something that does not want to be found.
