This is an “Isolated” recording from the “Classic Derek and the Dominos” classic hit song “Layla”.
This recording plays only two tracks from the original 16 track recording. It features Eric Clapton’s Main Vocal and the Main Guitar Riff including Duane Allman’s Slide Guitar solo. The final recording has 6 different Guitar tracks all layered over each other, listening to these tracks in isolation really helps if you are trying to learn to play the song.
The title, "Layla", comes from the story "Layla and Majnun", written by a 12th-century Persian poet named Nizami Ganjavi. The story is about a mans unrequited love for a women.
In real life Eric Clapton wrote this song for his own unrequited love, Patty Boyd, the wife of his close friend, George Harrison.
In August 1970 Eric Clapton was recording the first and only “Derek and the Dominos” album in Miami Florida. On the 26 August 1970 he took the night off to see “The Allman Brothers” play a local show. After the show he invited Duane Allman to come back to Criteria Studios in North Miami Beach and Jam.
Clapton has described Allman as "the musical brother that I never had, but wished I did"
Duane Allman became a very important contributor to the “Derek and the Dominos’s” album, he recorded the main parts for “Layla” on the 9th of September 1970.
One year later, October 29, 1971 Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident, in Macon, Georgia, he was 24 years old.
"Layla" reached #10 in the USA Chart.
It is considered to be one of the best rock songs ever recorded.
