Sinigang is one of the most beloved and favorite dish in the Philippines . It is serve in many family occasions and gatherings all year round . It is a soup or stew characterized by its sour and savory taste which is often associated with Tamarind or Sampalok. Sinigang is most often associated with tamarind Other variations of the dish derive their sourness from native ingredients. Most people use seasoning powder or bouillon cubes with a tamarind base already because it is also packed with flavor.
Sinigang typically use meat or seafood . The most common ingredients for Sinigang are the fish, shrimp and pork. Among the vegetables, the most common ones are the tamarind, tomatoes, garlic, okra, water spinach, taro, eggplant, taro, green beans and onions. Other vegetables commonly used in the making of sinigang include okra, taro, chili pepper, pepper corns, white raddish and onions. The taro or abi adds a starchy component to the dish and thickens the broth. Most Filipinos like to cook sinigang with a combinations of several vegetables.
