Today I’m reviewing the CAO Pilon Anejo – if you’re like me, the CAO Pilon Anejo has probably flown under your radar. It is a limited release, “only” 5,000 boxes (100,000 cigars) were made. I ended up getting a couple of them at a cigar event and tried one. I was highly impressed so I thought I’d better do a review to spread the word.
The CAO Pilon Anejo is similar to the original CAO Pilon in how the tobacco is fermented and aged. It is a natural process in which tobacco leaves are arranged in a circular pile (Pilon in Spanish) and rearranged several times to maximize effectiveness of aging. The Pilon Anejo takes this a step further – after rolling into cigars, the end product is aged for two more years before it is shipped. Many companies wick and dry cigars before shipping, but two years of true aging is relatively unusual.
Specs on this cigar:
Wrapper is Ecuadorian Sumatra, Binder is Honduran Habano, Filler is Ligero and Seco primings from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic. Size smoked was Toro (about 6” x 54).
Summary and ratings:
Body is 7.5/10, a truly medium-full body cigar.
Smoking enjoyment is 8.5/10, this cigar is reminiscent of the My Father Le Bejou and worth your while.
I wanted to expand a bit on my segment about my issues with Youtube. Cigars,Cigars,Cigars channel is a hobby for me but it takes considerable time and effort to produce a video. Getting the facts about the cigar I’m reviewing, setting up lighting and sound, shooting, editing, finding funny clips to insert, and posting a video takes a total of about 5-6 hours. While I certainly enjoy it, I have been frustrated that Youtube has basically completely stopped supporting the channel. After working hard to build up traffic to several thousand views each week, about a week ago Youtube stopped suggesting my videos, and traffic is down nearly 90%. I gave a lot of thought to whether to talk about it with my viewers, and decided to do so. I want to keep bringing informative and entertaining videos to my loyal viewers, and the only way I can keep doing this is to have enough people watching to make it worth the several hours it takes.
