Описание: Pollenzo is a hamlet of the municipality of Bra in the province of Cuneo. The ancient Pollenzo, the Roman city of Pollentia, already mentioned by Pliny the Elder, was founded in the 2nd century BC; in 402 Pollentia was the scene of the battle of Pollenzo, in which the Visigoth troops commanded by Alaric were defeated near the city by the Roman general Stilicho, and forced to retreat to Illyria. The King of Sardinia Carlo Alberto di Savoia promoted a major transformation of the village of Pollenzo and the castle of the same name between 1832 and 1848, with the aim of creating a model estate aimed at experimenting and improving agricultural and winemaking activities. The King of Italy Vittorio Emanuele III, after abdicating on 9 May 1946, assumed the title of Count of Pollenzo. Since 2004, the University of Gastronomic Sciences has been based at the Pollenzo Agency, managed under the aegis of Slow Food.
