Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett - Bass Cover - Request

This is the requested transcription I've done of the Wilson Pickett version of the Beatles song "Hey Jude". This is from his 1969 album entitled the same. The bass player listed on this track was Jerry Jemmott, but it could've also been David Hood. If I was asked to guess which bass player, I would guess David Hood.

I have to wonder on this one...what happened with the final mixing? Is it just me or is this mix really harsh sounding? Especially near the end (nah, nah, nah, nah part...ouch!). You might want to be close to the volume control as it's a little loud and quite abrasive sounding.

The biggest piece of advice I could give on playing this one is to play it straight (don't rush, don't drag, right in the middle). I found the tendency was to try and make it bounce, but after a few takes and some critical listening, I tried playing it really straight, and voila. It started to match a little closer to what he was playing.

There are some tricky rhythms in here, but the notes are basically just triads and a few passing tones. Try to play it clean and accurate and don't let the notes ring for too long.
