With the completion of the The long-awaited 192km Gemas–Johor Bahru electrified double-track project, journey times fell to just over 4 hours!

Eighteen months ago, this route worked — but it never felt seamless. The border wasn’t the issue. The real disruption came halfway, where you had to change trains, change seats, and continue the journey on something slower and older.

Now, with track upgrades complete, the same train runs all the way south.

In this video, I travel from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru Sentral by train to see what’s actually different in 2026 — and whether this finally feels like a smooth, grown-up way to travel.

I try both business class and standard class, focus on comfort and continuity rather than speed, and take a close look at what’s improved… and what hasn’t.

I don’t cross into Singapore this time, but JB Sentral remains the key transition point on this route — and an important part of the experience.

This isn’t about hype or headlines. It’s about whether the journey now makes sense.
