"Reconceptualizing the Engagement Construct"
Topic:
The best predictor of academic progress is student engagement.
But educational psychologists have made surprisingly little progress in understanding the nature and predictive capacity of student engagement.
In this talk, I overview a program of research to (1) add agency and (2) reconceptualize the role of emotion within the larger engagement construct.
These changes yield a new model of engagement that better explains and predicts when students do (and do not) make academic progress.
